We passed a major milestone at Birst this month, earning the highest certification for handling sensitive data as set by the International Standards Organization. The ISO 27001 certification signals to the world that Birst’s cloud BI platform meets rigorous standards for maintaining a systematic and ongoing approach to managing sensitive company and customer information. As we continue to expand in the US and abroad, we believe it is crucial to demonstrate to our customers and partners the extreme level of dedication we have to protecting their data. Our operations team has worked diligently to achieve the highest security certification set by the world’s leading standards body, and to establish a formal program that maintains its thorough requirements to ensure that Birst customers and partners know that their data is safe in the Birst cloud.

Why is this Important?

As an application service provider Birst has always placed immense importance on protecting customers’ data, and for the past three years we have achieved successful certification under the SSAE SOC 2 Type 2 standards – a more common certification for American companies. However, as we continue to grow in international markets as well as the United States, we felt that it was necessary to demonstrate a greater level of commitment to managing information security.  The ISO 27001 certification provides us international credibility. We believe that companies that are serious about providing cloud services across international markets must attain this level of certification. This achievement sets Birst apart among cloud business intelligence vendors.

Commitment to our customers

For Birst, information security means more than checking a box on a compliance form. We want to be sure that our customer and company information is protected. We also know that we must have complete data recovery and backup systems in place to further ensure that vital information is never lost. The ISO 27001 certification assures that Birst has a comprehensive security plan, implements the plan, continuously monitors and reviews the plan, and acts to make any necessary changes.
