Why Birst – Through the Eyes of Birst Customers (and Nucleus Research)

Nucleus Research, a boutique analyst firm based in Boston which focuses on “investigative information technology research,” released their Technology Value Matrix for Analytics for 2012.  The matrix seeks to evaluate vendors that have a global presence and provide functionality in the four core analytics areas: business intelligence (BI), performance management (PM), predictive analytics, and big data.   We were delighted to learn that Birst was named a “Leader” in its Analytics Value Matrix that published today.  Birst joins the company of some larger (and better known) vendors in the business intelligence space, including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, Qlikview, and IBM.

Nucleus makes their assessments based on a combination of interviews with the vendors and speaking with end users/customers.  Nucleus recently spent a bunch of time talking with Birst customers. The reason we showed up as a Leader in the Value Matrix according to Nucleus was due to our “approach in combining the cloud, Big Data, analytics, and visualization tools into a single product.”  This in turn gives “Birst competitive advantages in comparison to less robust cloud-based solutions, data discovery solutions that lack their own datawarehouse, and larger competitors that require additional investment.”

Nucleus recently published a research note called “Anatomy of a Decision: Birst.”  This is a summary document of why Birst customers selected our solution for their analytic needs based on interviews Nucleus had with these customers.  It dives into what the customer was looking for in a business analytics solution, who else they looked at during their evaluation, what was important for them/what not, and ultimately why they chose to go with Birst.  It’s an eye-opening document which zeros in on the Birst value proposition when compared to many of the data discovery, open source, and SaaS BI solutions that are available in the marketplace.  The report is now available from birst.com and we encourage you to check out your own complimentary version.
